"C6MSGL1" Firing Schedule
Mastering Glazes Cone 6
From page 144 in Mastering Glazes.
Step 1 is to provide time for all remaining or residual water in glaze and clay to evaporate. However 220F may not be high enough, 250F is usually needed (and will not fracture ware). This segment should also have a hold, at least 60 minutes.
| Step | °C | °F | Hold | Time | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 55°C/hr to 105C | 99°F/hr to 221F | 0 | 1:58 | |
| 2 | 200°C/hr to 1080C | 360°F/hr to 1976F | 0 | 6:51 | |
| 3 | 85°C/hr to 1200C | 153°F/hr to 2192F | 15min | 8:30 | Confirm with self supporting cone |
| 4 | 275°C/hr to 1000C | 495°F/hr to 1832F | 0 | 9:14 | |
| 5 | 70°C/hr to 760C | 126°F/hr to 1400F | 0 | 12:40 |
Start temperature assumed: 25°C or 75°F
"Fahrenheit degrees" is not the same as "degrees Fahrenheit". A 100° reading on a Fahrenheit thermometer is equal to a 37° reading on a Celcius thermometer. But "100 Fahrenheit degrees of temperature change" is equivalent "55 Celsius degrees of change". That is an important distinction to understand the above temperature conversions.
