Sodium Tripolyphosphate

Alternate Names: Sodium Triphosphate, STPP

Oxide Analysis Formula Tolerance
Na2O 42.10% 0.62
P2O5 57.90% 0.38
Oxide Weight 91.99
Formula Weight 91.99

Notes

Used as a source of sodium in the glass industry. The reaction is: 2 Na5P3O10 ----> 5 Na2O + 3P2O5

STPP is also used in glazes and engobes as a deflocculant (to reduce water content).

Typecodes Flux Source
Materials that source Na2O, K2O, Li2O, CaO, MgO and other fluxes but are not feldspars or frits. Remember that materials can be flux sources but also perform many other roles. For example, talc is a flux in high temperature glazes, but a matting agent in low temperatures ones. It can also be a flux, a filler and an expansion increaser in bodies.
